GALERIES "COULEURS D'ESTRAN"

Depuis de nombreuses années, j’explore les cimetières de bateaux de Bretagne, dont l’ atmosphère bien particulière m’a toujours attiré. Ce sont des lieux pleins de sérénité qui incitent à la méditation, qui parlent au visiteur sachant écouter  - inutiles disent certains, mais alors au même titre que les cimetières des hommes  - une partie du patrimoine de toute façon, menacée à court terme par la modernité.

En regardant de plus près, j’y ai découvert des richesses insoupçonnées qui m’ont fourni des sujets à la fois pour ma peinture et pour mes photographies. Soumises aux outrages combinés du soleil et du vent, de l’eau et du sel, les coques en bois révèlent à la manière d’un oignon leurs anciens revêtements de peinture, évoquant tantôt la palette saturée de Van Gogh, tantôt les compositions façonnées par le couteau de Nicolas de Staël. Quant aux coques en fer, la peinture en a depuis longtemps disparu, mais les éléments ont rongé le métal et créé des irisations aux couleurs improbables et des fantasmagories. mystérieuses. 

Pour paraphraser Whistler dans sa conférence «Ten o’clock» de 1885, la beauté est partout :  il suffit d’aller la chercher …

Tirées en Digigraphies, elles ont fait l'objet d'une exposition que j'ai appelée "Couleurs d'estran", qui a été présentée à l'Orangerie du Jardin du Thabor à Rennes en juin 2011. Un livre-catalogue représentant 31 de ces photos a été édité à cette occasion en 100 exemplaires numérotés et signés. Merci de cliquer ici pour les visuels de l'exposition et du catalogue.

Le 130e SALON DES ARTISTES FRANCAIS s'est tenu à PARIS

au GRAND PALAIS des CHAMPS ELYSEES 

 du 22 au 27 novembre 2011.

Une partie du présent travail y a été exposée dans la section Photographie

et a été récompensée par une MEDAILLE DE BRONZE.

"FORGOTTEN COLOURS" GALLERIES 

For many years, I have been exploring ship-graveyards around the shores of Brittany, the atmosphere of which has always strongly attracted me. These are places that call for meditation, sending messages to whom can open his ears to hear them. Some say these graveyards serve no purpose - but then no less than human graveyards do.  Whatever the case, as part of the local patrimony, they are doomed to disappear very shortly in the modern times we are living.

When you look at the wrecks at a close range, you can discover some fascinating views ; and I personally found there some unusual subjects for my paintings and for my photography. Under the ravages of the sun and the wind,  of the water and the salt, the wooden hulls display, like onions do, fragments of the successive layers of paint they received throughout their lives. The saturated colours are often the same as those of Van Gogh’s palette, whereas in other spots the vision reminds us of the compositions created by Nicolas de Staël’s palette knife. As for the steel hulls, they have long since lost their coats of paint. Instead, the elements have eaten into the metal, bringing to light some iridescences with unlikely colours and mysterious fantasia. To paraphrase what Whistler said in his “Ten o’clock” speech (1885) : "beauty is everywhere, you just have to go and find it…"

Printed as Digigraphies, they have been regrouped in a special exhibition titled "Forgotten colours" which was presented in June 2011,  in the Winter Conservatory of the Thabor Gardens, in Rennes, Brittany, France. A catalogue comprising 31 of them has been edited on this occasion in 100 copies only, numbered and signed by me. Please click here to see more about the exhibit and the catalogue.

 from November 22nd through 27th,  2011.
